Azure Synapse Analytics Studio Manage Hub allows you to manage your workspace within a single dashboard. It has many options, from creating linked services using connectors such as Power BI and Azure Data Lake to granting access to the platform.

The Synapse Analytics Manage Hub offers the following options:
- Analytic Pools
- SQL pools
- Apache Spark pools

SQL Pools
In this area, you can manage your previously created SQL pools or create new ones.
- You can execute SQL workloads by using any of the provisions forms:
- On-demand: pay only for the execution time of the queries
- Provisioned: pay a fixed price for the number of data warehouse units allocated to the services (you can scale out and scale back as requested).
- You can start and pause your provisioned SQL pools
- You can also create new SQL pools without leaving the Azure Synapse Analytics workspace
Apache Spark Pools
It’s possible to create multiple instances of Spark pools depending on the workload requirements (1) and define the auto-pause rules to stop paying for resources (2).
Linked Services
In the Linked Services section, you can create and manage connections to different services and design more to use when you develop datasets in Azure Synapse Analytics.
There are more than 85 connectors including Power BI, Oracle, Snowflake, HTTP, ODBC, and more.
The definition of linked services comes from Azure Data Factory.
Triggers
Triggers enable you to manage when you execute your Azure Data Factory Pipelines.
The definition of triggers comes from Azure Data Factory, with options to execute workloads based on schedule, tumbling windows or an event.
Integration Runtimes
The Integration Runtimes are the components where Azure Data Factory pipelines are executed. They close the gap between the activities in a pipeline and the linked services.
There are 3 main types of integration runtimes:
- Azure: execute workloads between Azure services or Azure Data Factory Mapping Data Flows.
- Self-Hosted: execute workloads between on-premises environments and Azure.
- Azure-SSIS: execute SQL Server Integration Services packages in Azure Data Factory.
The definition of linked services comes from Azure Data Factory.
Access Control
Azure Synapse Analytics comes with role-based access control.
You need to give users access to these roles before they can access Azure Synapse Analytics.
Some of the roles available are:
- Workspace admin
- Apache Spark admin
- SQL admin
Summary
Azure Synapse Analytics Manage Hub offers a central dashboard where you can manage your Azure Synapse Analytics workspaces, from starting and stopping SQL Pools to granting access to data experts.
For access control, I believe that it’d be great to see some more roles added to the service, not just admin roles.
